Tanzania have failed to honour a trip to Sudan for the second time in five months |
Tanzania have withdrawn from the East and Central Africa Senior Challenge (Cecafa) Cup for the second time in four days.
Tanzania originally withdrew from the tournament on Thursday after the government failed to finance their trip to Sudan where the tournament is being played.
However, local business tycoon Azim Dewji intervened with cash on Friday yet the inability to secure air passage to Sudan has forced Tanzania to withdraw from the competition once again.
"We have pulled out of the tournament, after failure to secure connecting flights from Nairobi to Khartoum," Yahya Mata, chairman of the interim committee of the Football Association of Tanzania (Fat), announced on Sunday.
Mata added that the flights which were to take the team to Sudan by Tuesday were fully booked.
In addition to the withdrawals of Somalia, Djibouti and Burundi due to cash problems, Tanzania's absence means that Kenya, Uganda, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Eritrea and Sudan are the only teams left in the tournament.
In July, Tanzania failed to honour their final 2004 Nations Cup qualifier against Sudan in Khartoum and were subsequently fined US $5,000 by Caf.
