Kenyan fans are unhappy about the dispute |
The Kenyan Football Federation (KFF)will enter into negotiations with the 10 clubs that have formed a rebel league, in the hope of resolving the current dispute.
KFF officials and members of the Inter Club Consultative Group (ICCG) - which represents the rebel clubs - are expected to hold their opening meeting on Friday.
But it is unlikely that a settlement will take place before December.
"We had hope that we could resolve the problems by the end of September," said Joshua Okuthe, chairman of Kenya's National Sports Council (KNSC), who is arbitrating in the dispute.
"But because of the All Africa Games, the time [for negotiations] had to be extended."
A five-man group from the KNSC met with KFF chairman Maina Kariuki on Monday for preliminary talks, after which Okuthe said there was room to address the grievances of the clubs in the breakaway league.
Okuthe had met earlier with the rebel clubs and listened to their concerns over alleged corruption and mismanagement of the league.
"It was decided we should separate the key issues from the trivial ones, so as to move towards a speedy reconciliation," he explained.
Okuthe said he had received the KFF's audited accounts and draft constitution, which will be made available for the ICCG to examine.
"I was surprised [that they had not received the draft constitution] because they were part of making it."
The KNSC chairman said the KFF was keen to reintegrate the rebel clubs into the official league as soon as a compromise was reached.
