Trabelsi suffered a slight ligament tear |
Tunisian international Hatem Trabelsi will be out of action for six weeks after suffering a knee injury during Ajax Amsterdam's Champions League clash with Celta Vigo on Wednesday.
The defender suffered a slight tear in the medial ligament of his left knee during the second half of Ajax's 1-0 win and will, according to his club, 'miss a minimum of six weeks'.
Trabelsi was ever present for Ajax in last season's Champions League and has played in the Amsterdam side's three Group H fixtures this season.
If his recovery takes longer than expected, the 26-year-old Trabelsi might not return to competitive league action in Holland until after the Eredivise's winter break - which starts on 21 December and ends on 23 January.
This would leave him short of match fitness and practice ahead of next year's Nations Cup finals, which start on 24 January in his Tunisian homeland.
Either way, the Holland-based defender will definitely miss Tunisia's warm-up friendlies against Italy on November 15 and South Africa four days later.
Trabelsi's injury is the second he has suffered in Europe this season after an ankle injury sustained in a Champions League tie in August also left him on the sidelines for a few weeks.
