Ndlovu arrived in Zimbabwe two hours before kick-off |
Two goals from captain Peter Ndlovu sank Swaziland and sent Zimbabwe into the final of the Cosafa Cup in Bulawayo on Sunday. Ndlovu arrived just two hours before kick-off, having helped his English first division club Sheffield United overcome Coventry City on Saturday.
It took the Bulawayo-born striker just three minutes to open the scoring in a lively game and his second goal came eight minutes after half-time on a hot, windy afternoon.
Zimbabwe face Malawi in a two-leg final with the first match scheduled for Blanytre on 27 September and the return leg a week later in Harare.
Official man-of-the-match Francis Madziva created the first goal with a deep cross that goalkeeper Sipho Dube spilled into the path of Ndlovu, who deftly stroked the ball into the net.
Poor defending contributed to the second goal in the 53rd minute with Zimbabweans lining up to convert a cross.
It was Ndlovu who applied the finishing touch, tapping the ball past a defender and over the line.
While Ndlovu gave a demonstration of clinical finishing, Swaziland wasted several good chances as they sought their first ever appearance in southern Africa's annual championship.
Success was especially sweet for the Warriors as they have struggled against the Swazis in this competition, losing two of their previous three clashes.
