Angola recent form has been poor |
Angola manager Ismael Kurtz could lose his job after the country's football federation comes out of an emergency meeting on Thursday. The Brazilian coach has been under increased pressure after the Palancas Negras shock defeat to Chad in the first leg of their 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier in Ndjamena.
Angola conceded three goals in the last 15 minutes of the tie, after the Belenenses striker Bruno Mauro had given them the lead.
The result leaves Angola with an uphill task during the 16 November return leg in Luanda.
The country will be out of competitive African football for three years should they fail to qualify for the group stage of the joint qualifiers.
Angolan newspapers are predicting that Bernardino Pedroto will replace Kurtz, who had earlier escaped a sacking in May.
Portuguese-born Pedroto is currently coaching league champions AS Aviacao, who play against Canon Yaounde of Cameroon in an African Champions League tie this weekend.
Kurtz replaced Mario Calado as national coach last year, soon after Calado had taken Angola to the 2001 Cosafa Castle Cup title.
But under the veteran Brazilian, who was also formerly in charge of Ghana, Angola lost in the early stages of the southern African championship for two successive years and failed to qualify for the Nations Cup finals in Tunisia.
