DR Congo striker has surgery
Shabani Nonda
Nonda is ruled out of the Nations Cup
Democratic Republic of Congo striker Shabani Nonda had a successful operation on his ruptured cruciate ligament.

The operation was performed in Strasbourg on Thursday by world-renowned knee surgeon Professor Jaeger.

Nonda, who plays for French side Monaco, sustained the injury after being tackled by defender Jose Pierre-Fanfan during last weekend's league game against Paris St Germain.

The injury will keep the 26-year-old out of action for eight months.

It also rules him out of next year's Nations Cup finals in Tunisia.

A Monaco spokesman said Nonda will remain in Strasbourg for two weeks of post-operative care.
