Nonda is out for the season |
Shabani Nonda has been ruled out of next year's Nations Cup finals, after sustaining a serious knee injury during a French league match on Sunday. The DR Congo striker, who plays for AS Monaco, was carried off the pitch after colliding with Paris St Germain defender Jose Pierre-Fanfan in the fifth minute of their encounter.
"Nonda is out for the rest of the season. The ligaments of the knee are damaged," said Monaco manager Didier Deschamps.
"Whatever PSG say, this [injury to Nonda] was [caused by] aggression from the defender.
"Because of that, a player is going to lose one year of his career," said an angry Deschamps.
Nonda is due to see a specialist in Strasbourg on Monday in preparation for surgery.
The 25-year-old was the leading striker in the French first division with 26 goals last season and his absence would have a telling effect on Monaco's domestic and Uefa Champions League campaigns.
