Kanyenda's Russian club refused to release him |
Malawi have been unable to secure the release of key striker Essau Kanyenda for Saturday's Cosafa Cup semi-final against Zambia. Kanyenda's Russian club FC Rostov have refused the player permission to travel for the game in Blantyre.
But the Flames will have former captains Patrick Mabedi and John Maduka back for the first time in almost one year.
The South African-based players had refused to play for their country since last year's Cosafa Cup final after accusing officials of insulting them.
They have since received an official apology from the Football Association of Malawi, hence the change of heart.
Saturday's semi-final will be a repeat of last year's match between the two countries at the same stage of southern Africa's annual championship, which Malawi won 1-0.
The winner of the tie meets either Zimbabwe or Swaziland, who play in the final, scheduled for 31 August in Bulawayo.
