Malawi failed to qualify for the Nations Cup |
Malawi's FA president John Zingale has quit his post.
Zingale said he took the decision to resign in order to maintain the respect he commands within the country's football community.
The ex-president had served two years of his three-year term.
Some members of the FA executive have accused Zingale of showing a lack of financial transparency but Zingale has denied any wrongdoing.
"I have not misappropriated any money belonging to the FA," he told BBC Sport website.
"[But] I think that some people may not be happy with strong leadership principles."
The FA recently set up a panel to investigate allegations that Zingale failed to account for the sum of $21,000, budgeted for the national team's trip for an African Nations Cup qualifier in Nigeria.
He was also accused of falsifying the cost of acquiring a new bus for the national team, in order to evade customs duties.
But the ex-president is confident that the FA's investigation will absolve him of misconduct.
Zingale insists that his personal fortunes took a dive while he led Malawian football.
"I was a successful businessman before taking up this job but I am now poor after pumping money into running football," he said.
Zingale said his resignation will not stop him from playing a relevant role in the development of football in the country.
