Babayaro last played at the World Cup |
The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has accused defender Celestine Babayaro of ignoring call-ups to the national team. Babayaro, who plays for English Premiership side Chelsea, has not featured in the Super Eagles squad since the 2002 World Cup finals.
An appearance in a 2-1 defeat to Sweden was his last game for Nigeria.
"We have made several overtures to Babayaro to rejoin his mates but he hasn't been co-operative," NFA secretary-general Taiwo Ogunjobi told reporters on Friday.
"We've sent Nwankwo Kanu and [Jay-Jay] Okocha, his friends in England, to try and convince him [to return to the team] but he has remained unrelenting.
"We don't understand why he's doing what he's doing," Ogunjobi said.
Babayaro, a member of the team that won gold at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, has made 26 appearances for the country.
