Gabon appoint new coach
Michel de Wolf
Michel de Wolf has returned to Belgium
Frenchman Christian Saramagna has been appointed as national coach of Gabon, replacing Belgium's Michel de Wolf.

Saramagna takes over less than a month before the start of the African qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup finals.

Gabonese football federation officials said the new coach's immediate task is to prepare the Panthers for the preliminary round tie against Burundi.

Saramagna, once in charge of French club St Etienne, coached Mali from 1998 to 2000.

But he was sacked after Mali's Eagles lost to Libya in the preliminary round of the 2002 World Cup qualifiers.
