 Jordaan wants to impress |
South Africa are hoping to use next week's visit by English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur to impress Fifa in the race for the 2010 World Cup. Bid Company chief executive officer Danny Jordan said the London-based club's two-match tour will give the country a chance to show its "passion for the game".
Spurs, coached by former England manager Glenn Hoddle, are due to play South African champions Orlando Pirates in Durban on Saturday 26 July before facing Kaizer Chiefs in Cape Town three days later. Spurs have been invited by South Africa's World Cup bid campaign, who said they were seeking to highlight the level of the country's club football through the tour.
"It is a chance for us to show the passion for the game at club level in South Africa, which is an important part of persuading Fifa of the merits of our bid," said Jordaan. Fifa has already decided that the 2010 World Cup will take place on African soil for the first time to start a planned rotation of the event between the continents.
Six countries - Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and Tunisia - were last month confirmed by Fifa as official bidders to host the 2010 finals.
The host nation will be made by the Fifa executive committee in Paris next May.
