Ghana comeback eliminates Uganda
Ghana 1-1 Uganda

Charles Amoah
Amoah rescued Ghana and broke Uganda's hearts
A goal in the last five minutes spared Ghana's blushes and ended Uganda's hopes of qualifying for Tunisia 2004.

Although the result leaves the Cranes top of Group 13, they cannot go through because whatever the result of Rwanda's match against Ghana is in two weeks time the points awarded will eliminate them.

Yet had Uganda held on after Assani Bajoba put them ahead on 16 minutes, they would have looked set fair to go through.

Bajoba rose to get his head to a poorly-defended corner and simply nodded the ball home.

Ghana seemed unable to muster much of a challenge, despite continued shouting from the coach on the touchline.

But they finally got an equaliser with six minutes to go, Charles Amoah steering the ball home.

The result was deeply unsatisfactory for both teams - but great news for little-fancied Rwanda.

The small east African country now only have to beat Ghana to qualify for their first ever Nations Cup finals.
