Malawi's national football team, the Flames, plan to camp in England ahead of their Nations Cup qualifying matches against Nigeria and Angola.
But the Malawi FA would only sanction the trip if the team performs well in their Cosafa Cup quarter-final against Botswana.
"The FA says that they can only host Malawi if we win our COSAFA Castle Cup quarter final against Botswana," said Malawi coach Alan Gillet.
Gillet had scheduled an English training tour for the Flames for May but this is unlikely to go ahead.
Plans to use a May tour to prepare for their match against Botswana have been shelved and will now play Zambia in a friendly.
Last year, the English FA hosted the Malawi for a two week camp, after they had reached the semi-finals of the regional championship.
Gillet said if the Flames beat Botswana and arrive in England, they will play Birmingham City, Leicester City and Bristol City.
Gillet, an English coach, said the clubs have accepted to play Malawi during the proposed tour.
