| Monday, 17 February, 2003, 13:57 GMT Gillet signs Malawi deal ![]() Malawi recently had a tour of England Malawi's football chiefs have confirmed that Allan Gillet will be in charge of the national team for four months. Gillet has been put on a monthly salary of �4,000 (about $6,400) per month. It will be paid by the Malawian government. His African Nations Cup qualifying debut will be a crucial home match against Nigeria in March. Football Association of Malawi (FAM) spokesman Chris Kamphinda said the 54-year old Gillet took up his training duties with the Flames on Monday. Gillet arrived in the country on Sunday to take over from Danish coach Kim Splidsboel, whose two-year contract expired in 2002. Malawi did not renew the contract with the Dane, saying it could not afford him after Denmark stopped all aid to the southern African country. |
