Gaddafi turns to action on the pitch after announcing Caf presidential bid |
Presidential candidate for the African Football Confederation (Caf), Al Saadi Gaddafi has been included in a 24-man Libyan squad for African Nations Cup qualifying games in June. Al Saadi, son of the Libyan head of State Colonel Gaddafi, announced last week he will contest the Caf elections to topple Cameroonian Issa Hayatou.
The squad which includes two foreign-based players will play Botswana and Congo Democratic Republic next month.
Libya is currently third in group 9 and will be looking for positive results in both games before hosting the group leaders, Swaziland in July.
Gaddafi, who is also the Libyan FA vice president is among 12 players selected from champions Al Ittihad.
The squad will begin camping without Al Hilal and Nassr players who have African club competitions.
Ironically, if Libya qualifies to Tunisia, Gadaffi junior could become the first elected president to be a full international during the finals.
But he has promised to quit playing if he wins the elections.
The election will take place 24 hours before the opening match.
