Al-Saadi said only South Africa stands in their way |
Al Saadi Al Gaddafi, the man heading Libya's 2010 World Cup bid, said they are prepared to spend $6 billion on upgrading their facilities to Fifa standards.
"We will allot US $6 billion for this event," he told the pan-Arabic Al Jazeerah television channel.
When asked about how the North African country will be able to afford such a huge amount of cash, he explained:
"We have a yearly budget of US $3 billion for development programs.
"And we will cut an amount of US $1 billion each year starting from next year until 2010," he said.
The son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has little regards for the other African contenders.
"I do not see any other serious contenders except South Africa who will be our only threat," he stated.
Gadaffi believes no other African nation has the resources to compete with their bid.
Al Saadi, an international player and President of Libyan club Ittihad, said international footballers and movie stars will be invited to campaign for the Libyan cause.
