SA shun Radebe and Bartlett
Striker Shaun Bartlett leads South Africa in a friendly against Sweden
Bartlett is vital for South Africa and Charlton
Lucas Radebe and Shaun Bartlett are among four of South Africa's top players who will not be picked to face England in May.

Coach Shakes Mashaba told a press conference in Johannesburg on Thursday that the four, who also include Mark Fish and Hans Vonk, would not be considered after they missed a training camp in Spain.

"I have spoken to the Safa chief operations officer (Albert Mokoena) and explained that those players have been given enough chance by myself and the technical staff," he said.

"I'm no longer going to call them up for any game until I get some recommendations from the Safa national executive committee. That includes the big game against England in May."

Mashaba said the training camp in Murcia last month was to determine the players' commitment and their availability for call-ups.

"Shaun stated that it was late for him to acquire a visa," said Mashaba.

"Mark and Hans declined the invitation and we were informed that Lucas was not going to attend the camp because of the Cricket World Cup opening ceremony.

"The argument was that his doctors has advised him to abstain from contact sport for six days. So we ended up with 13 players at the camp."

The absence of South Africa's England-based players in Spain was not the first time they have failed to answer national call-ups.

The injury-prone Radebe has made a commitment to put Leeds first, while Bartlett and Fish have run into problems with Charlton manager Alan Curbishley when trying to be released.
