Pienaar has been a revelation this season |
South African international Steven Pienaar attributed his good run of form with Ajax Amsterdam to the calming influence of club coach Ronald Koeman. "I have been having a good time since I came back from the winter break.
"It was difficult to get back my form initially, but the coach has been behind me and told me to keep it simple to get my confidence back.
That is what I have been doing and so far it is going well," he said.
The Bafana-Bafana player said the international mix of players at Ajax has helped him to settle into Dutch football quickly.
"I think Ajax has a good mix of young players from outside Holland.
"We are all young and want to succeed, so we work hard together as a team and that is where our strength lies".
He acknowledged Leo Capfini, his former coach at Ajax Cape Town, as playing an instrumental role in his career progress.
"Without him I would not be here," Pienaar said.
Pienaar said the professional attitude of Ajax Cape Town, a subsidiary of Ajax Amsterdam, made his transition to European football easier.
Regarding his international career with South Africa, Pienaar declared his willingness to serve his country and vowed to prove himself worthy of a Bafana shirt.
