Augusto Matine was the former coach |
Former Soviet international Viktor Bondarenko has been appointed as the new coach of Mozambique. It is his second spell as Mozambique coach.
He spent two years in charge of the team from April 1993 to November 1995.
Bondarenko was also involved in the country's domestic football, winning several league titles with Costa do Sol.
He replaces Augusto Matine, who resigned last October, after losing 3-0 at home to the Congo in a Nations Cup qualifier.
Until recently, Bondarenko was the coach of South African premier league club Mamelodi Sundowns.
He was sacked in November, even though the team headed the standings at the time of his departure.
The 53-year-old coach, who signed a one year contract, arrived in the capital Maputo to begin preparations for Mozambique's two international matches later this month.
They first host Lesotho in Maputo on 21 March, in the first round of the Cosafa Castle Cup.
The second home game is an African Nations Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso on 30 March.
