| Friday, 7 February, 2003, 16:17 GMT Gambia secure Nigeria friendly ![]() Nigeria are not asking for any money from the match The Gambia Football Association have confirmed that a friendly match between the Scorpions and Nigeria will take place in Banjul on 16 February. The date is set aside by Fifa for a number of international friendlies, and the GFA disclosed that Gambia's request for a friendly game with the Super Eagles had been accepted. The GFA's Gabbie Sosseh confirmed the news, proudly displaying a fax from the GFA to journalists. "This is the biggest ever test for the Gambia's Scorpions, as they set out to meet neighbouring Senegal in March," Sosseh told BBC Sport. "We have tried painstakingly to set up friendlies and I am very delighted that Nigeria has accepted our invitations." Mr Sosseh further stated that the package would cost the GFA $16,000 in air fares alone for the 25-man Nigerian delegation. "In addition, we have to cater for their lodging, local transportation and feeding," he said. "However, as a brotherly nation, the NFA has not asked for any appearance fees." He also revealed that the Nigerian FA has indicated interest to call up all their major professionals in Europe and elsewhere for the Banjul match. "It has always been our interest to organise and give test matches for our boys," he pointed out. "But our biggest problem is money. People should realise that it takes a lot of money to organise home or away matches." | Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
