Hassan duo in trouble
Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan
The Hassan twins have a poor disciplinary record

Zamalek coach Carlos Alberto Capral has suspended the veteran twin brothers Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan from playing for the African Champions.

Capral's decision followed his displeasure over their negative attitude after a win over Lazio in Cairo.

"Either I go or they (the Hassan twins) leave," Capral said.

"They frighten their team-mates, which negatively affects the whole team.

"I wanted to get rid of them a long time ago, but I did not want to threaten our chances during the African Champions' League, since we were doing well."

The Hassan twins have a record of conflicts with national and club coaches in the past.

Problems with former club Al Ahly made the Hassan twins break the Egyptian league taboo to make the crossover to Zamalek, their dreaded archrival.

Zamalek's fans are torn between supporting their beloved twin brothers or the new coach who promises a return to the glory days.

But the Egyptian and African champions have to close ranks before their derby match against Ahly at the end of the month.

The game is one of the most keenly contested matches in African football.
