| Monday, 23 December, 2002, 12:50 GMT Caf stir Kenyan anger ![]() Kenya will be up against it in Egypt Caf has caused controversy by announcing that the All-Africa Games qualifying matches between Egypt and Kenya will both be staged in Port Said - in Egypt. That means that despite Kenyan protestations that the games should have a return match in Nairobi, Egypt will have home advantage for both games. The decision was announced by Baccar Mohieddine, the chair of the Group 5 qualifying group. Kenya travelled to Egypt despite the withdrawal of three other teams - Ethiopia, Uganda and Sudan. All three had abandoned the tournament in protest claiming that Egypt - at the last minute - had refused to pay for the competition expenses, including travel costs. Indeed, Uganda wrote a letter to the Egyptian FA stating that, "according to the regulations in this Cup, the visiting sides have to take care of their costs". But Mohieddine said that there had been no violation of financial rules. He argued that while Egypt were obliged to pay for the basic costs of visiting teams, such as food, the cost of flights was to be met by the individual football federations. The reason his decision over Kenya is so controversial is that before Egypt devised the plan of hosting all the qualifying games themselves, home-and-away qualifiers were the standard format. And the Kenyans believe that after the withdrawal of the other sides, this is the format to which the matches should have reverted. | Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
