| Wednesday, 20 November, 2002, 16:00 GMT Morocco launch World Cup bid ![]() Morocco fans hope to see the World Cup on home soil Morocco have officially announced that they will bid for the 2010 World Cup. The North Africans' interest in hosting the tournament had long been known, but Morocco had not previously formally confirmed they would bid to host the competition. "Fifa has taken note of this official confirmation and considers our country as a potential candidate to host this competition," said a Moroccan soccer federation spokesman. They failed with bids for the 1994, 1998 and 2006 tournaments, but believe they will have a better chance this time round. Fifa has confirmed that the 2010 World Cup will be given to an African country, and is expected to announce its final decision in 2004.
