The clash between the Super Eagles and the Teranga Lions will take plae in Dakar on the 12th. The charity match has been prompted by the sea disaster which took place on the 27th of September. "This is our own way of sharing in the grief the disaster has caused the good people of Senegal," said Samuel Kaalu, spokesman for the Nigeria Football Association (NFA). Aswell as men, women and children who lost their lives, it is also feared students of two football schools who were on the vessel may have died.
The groups had been travelling from Ziguinchor on their way to a tournament near the capital when tragedy struck. Both countries, who featured at the last World Cup, last met at the African Nations Cup in Mali earlier this year. That encounter ended in a thrilling 2-1 win for the Teranga Lions. The Nigerian FA are thought to be lining up several other friendly matches including one against Algeria early next year. Meanwhile revenue from Sunday's African Champions League clash between Jeanne d'Arc of Senegal and Al Ahly of Egypt will go to victims of the Ndola boat disaster. The decision was reached at the club's meeting on Tuesday. | See also: 30 Sep 02 | Africa 28 Sep 02 | Africa 26 Sep 02 | Africans abroad Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
