Weah rules out return
George Weah meets his fans
Weah (centre) is still revered by football fans

Liberia legend George Weah has confirmed he has cut all footballing ties with the Lone Star.

Weah finally retired from the Liberia team at the end of the African Nations Cup in January, having previously come back to the side having quit due to abuse from fans.

But speaking to BBC Sport Online from a training camp in the Netherlands where his club, Al Jazira, are on tour, Weah confirmed there would be no more comebacks.

"I'm a fan rooting for the national team - that's as far as my involvement goes," Weah said.

And he added that he has had no contact with new team boss Kallah Kromah, one of his successors as Liberia coach.

"I've had no call from Kromah," Weah confirmed.

"But he's a very good coach, he understands the game and players."

He also unhesitatingly ruled out coming back if asked.

"No truly, I would not. Maybe in ten or fifteen years if I'm still alive. Now? No."

Advice

Up until now George has not only funded the team, and given in technical direction, he also played in it.

That is now all over. He has even wound up his Junior Club.

"There's no personal relationship between me and the Liberian Football Association," Weah stated.

"I'm no longer part of it. For the Liberian people it's sad I'm not part of the sporting programme."

He went on to criticise the calibre of staff of the Liberian FA.

"They don't have the capability, and I don't wish to work with them any more," he said.

But he said a shake-up could offer the chance for him to become part of the operation again.

"If there's a new group in power to give advice and experience to I will willingly come."
