Cole's Zimbabwe mission
Andy Cole shows his ball-juggling skills
Cole cheered the children with his football skills
English Premiership star Andy Cole was recently in Zimbabwe to see the work of his charity, the Andy Cole Children's Foundation.

The foundation was set up by Cole after he visited Zimbabwe in 1999, soon after winning the European Champions League with Manchester United.

He was moved by the suffering of street children and orphans that he witnessed, and the organisation has gone on to raise 250,000.

Being dropped from the England World Cup squad gave Cole an opportunity to go back to Zimbabwe to meet some of the children benefiting from his work.

"I left Africa knowing that I had to do something to help," said Cole, a household name in Zimbabwe due the popularity of the English Premiership.

While playing football was not the purpose of his visit, he agreed to show his ball skills at the Mbuya Nehanda Childrens home in Ruwa, 40km from the capital, Harare.

There are 120 children at the home, which is funded by the charity, and many of them have been orphaned by AIDS.

A mobile health clinic is also being set up in Harare by the foundation, to help the ever-growing number of street children in the capital.

"It's all been pretty humbling, this is a different sort of achievement to scoring goals or winning trophies," Cole said.
