| Tuesday, 9 April, 2002, 13:55 GMT 14:55 UK Kaizer Chiefs appeal ![]() Kaizer Chiefs are the current trophy holders South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs are to appeal against Caf's decision to throw them out of Africa's Cup Winners' Cup tournament. Chiefs, who are the current holders of the trophy, were prevented from defending their crown after they failed to turn up for their first round, second leg match against Mauritian side US Transfoot. The club claimed that they could not get flights because of the political strife in the country. However Caf claimed this was insufficient reason as the match official had been able to make the trip. Caf, which had already hinted Chiefs were entitled to appeal, has referred the decision to its appeal committee. US Transfoot, who were given the match despite losing 4-0 in Johannesburg in the first leg, are due to play Jeanne d'Arc of Reunion in the second round this weekend. | See also: 09 Apr 02 | Africa 01 Apr 02 | Africa 08 Apr 02 | Sports Talk Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
