Roger Burden, who is currently joint acting chairman of the Football Association, insists he does not want to become its permanent chairman.

Burden and David Sheepshanks are sharing the role on a temporary basis following Lord Triesman's resignation.

"I really don't think I can commit another two or three days a week to the FA," Burden told BBC Gloucestershire.

"I already spend a day or two at Wembley in my other roles and that's just about right for me."

Burden has risen through the FA's ranks and is chairman of both the Gloucestershire FA and the National Game Board, which governs football below professional levels.

Although he does not want to become chairman on a permanent basis, Burden insists someone from a similar background to him could still lead the FA in the future.

"The credentials aren't essential to have experience of professional football - anybody who's really interested in the game is with a chance," he said.

"I certainly don't think that I - or my colleagues who're more concerned with the game below the professional level - are at a disadvantage."
