Jennie Batten believes she can better her personal best

Athletics

Gloucestershire's Jennie Batten says she can run faster after setting a new personal best in the 200m at the Loughborough International Games.

Batten, 17, set a time of 23.88 seconds as well as helping Great Britain Under-20s to third in the 4x100m.

"It showed me that I've had a good winter," the Stroud schoolgirl told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"I've trained hard and seeing as it's only my third race of the season I can tell that I can go a lot faster."

Primarily a 200m specialist, Batten is at the bottom end of the under-20 age section and her best chances of gaining experience of major championships this year may rest with selection for relay squads.

That is something Batten is fully aware of as she targets selection for the British squad for the World Junior Championships in Canada in July.

"I'm looking towards doing the under-20 national championships in Bedford and then from that selection for the World Juniors takes place."

"My aim for this year is to go to the World Juniors as part of the 4x100m relay squad."
