David Beckham should consider retirement - Campbell

Former Olympic sprinter Darren Campbell thinks David Beckham should now consider retirement from football after rupturing his Achilles tendon.

England midfielder Beckham is almost certain to miss the World Cup this summer after suffering the same injury that befell Campbell last year.

The 36-year-old athlete told BBC Radio Manchester: "It may actually be time for David Beckham to hang up his boots.

"The chances of him making the World Cup are zero."

Campbell, who retired before his injury, wonders if Beckham will have the motivation to return if he misses the World Cup.

He said: "If this had happened eight months ago, making the World Cup would've been a big enough motivation for David Beckham to get actually get back from this.

"If you've got the right motivation anything is possible. I think the key will be what is David Beckham's motivation."
