John Welsh has been appointed manager of the Jersey Island team and will lead the side into the 2010 Muratti.

Welsh already manages the side which represents the Jersey Football Combination League against other teams from the UK.

He told BBC Jersey: "I'm immensely proud to be offered the position and to take the position.

"I've been privileged to work with the past couple of Island managers and I'll need to lean on those experiences."

Welsh has taken on the responsibility of managing the Island team until the end of the season and will combine the role with his existing position as head of the Jersey Football Combination team.

He said: "It's really one group of players and certainly if one team is being successful then the continuity is the most important.

"I do see it as the end of the season being the end of my term."

Dave Kennedy stepped down as the permanent manager of the Island side after Jersey's win in the Muratti earlier this year.
