Dartford are through to the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy thanks to a 1-0 win over Kent neighbours Sittingbourne.
Sittingbourne had been angered in the build-up to this first qualifying round local derby by Dartford boss Tony Burman's decision to rotate his squad.
But Alan Tate did Dartford's talking where it mattered, on the pitch.
He made the most of a rare start to get the game's only goal and end this week's pre-match war of words.
Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott, strongly linked with a move to neighbours Welling United this week, said before the game: "He's really wound me up.
"If he thinks playing a weakened team they're still going to beat us, I hope it backfires."
But Burman told BBC Radio Kent: "I think Gary read my comments wrongly. And he's had the decency to apologize.
"I never said it would be a weakened side. I just said I would rotate my squad.
"The players showed a good attitude and, in the end, they deserved their result. Whether it was 1-0 or 5-0, we're through to the next round and that's the main thing."
Abbott said: "Tony can put any team he wants to. Maybe he took me too lightly.
"I thought we were the better side at half-time and everyone has their 25-minute spell. They had theirs and they scored a good goal.
"I can't fault the boys. The effort and desire was there. We've been beaten by one bit of quality."
Abbott also confirmed that he has had an interview for the Welling job.
Welling had two players sent off in their 3-1 defeat at Chelmsford City.
Lee Protheroe, who has ruled himself out of the running for the job, took caretaker charge.
But any hopes of a result were hampered by red cards for both Andy Sambrook and Steve King.
Dover kept up the pressure on Blue Square South leaders Newport County with a 2-1 win at Weymouth.
Jon Wallis and Shaun Welford scored their goals, both in the first half, to help keep Dover second in the table.
Folkestone Invicta went top of Ryman Division One North with a 3-2 win over Walton Casuals.
Faversham Town extended their lead at the top of the Kent League to nine points with a 4-0 win over Greenwich Borough, their sixth straight win.
Hollands and Blair are now four points clear at the top of the Kent County League following their 2-1 win over Milton.
