Micah Richards column

Micah Richards

I have known for a while that my eyesight is not the best.

Even on my driving test, which I passed, when I was asked to read the number plate of the car in front, it was blurred.

But I have just found out I am nearsighted - I went to an opticians this week, the club doctor sorted it out.

I could only read the top three lines on the chart so I have got to start wearing contact lenses now.

Will it affect me during a game? No. They are a bit hard to get in at the moment but I have just got to get used to them.

I won't be wearing glasses either but I might go for Edgar Davids' goggles - that is a good look!

I hope to be back in full training next week so it should not be long before I am back in action - I have been sitting on my backside for too long already.

I do feel I am making progress with my knee - this week I did a lot more twisting and turning, the sort of stuff you would be doing during a match. Now I am just trying to get used to the ball again but it feels good.

A few of you have emailed in to tell me about your own injuries and I would definitely advise all of you to be patient.

Just after I had my operation, the England physio Gary Lewin rang me and said: "The longer you rest, the better it will be."

I know you young players will be anxious to get back out there but it is better to relax and wait until you are 100%.

You also wanted to know if I had a goal target this season.

Well, you can give me as much grief as you want to about that because my target was five and I have only managed one.

Even that was for England and | have not come close to scoring for Manchester City, although I can still remember running from my own half against Newcastle then totally scuffing my shot!

With the leap I have got, I always look to get forward at set-pieces but it has just not happened for me.

606: DEBATE

I had a bet with Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand that I would get more than him but he has scored four so I will have to throw in the excuse that I have been out injured!

I have not scored for City since September 2006 but as a defender you always get chances at free-kicks and corners and last season I must have had five or six cleared off the line.

It is about getting on a run - this year a mate of mine, Joleon Lescott, has managed eight for Everton and I know he is always confident of scoring, you almost start expecting to.

Saturday was not the best day for two of my other friends though.

Last week I was talking about West Brom striker Ishmael Miller and the FA Cup semi-final against Portsmouth.

I watched the game at our training ground but he did not even start and could not stop their defeat when he did come on.

It was disappointing but he has still had a good season and hopefully they will win promotion.

Nedum Onuoha
Onuoha had to be carried off against Chelsea

My City team-mate Nedum Onuoha suffered a dislocated shoulder in our defeat by Chelsea.

I am gutted for him as he has had so much bad luck with injuries.

I went to see him after he had come off and he was in a lot of pain - his leg was still shaking and I think he was still in a bit of shock.

He says he has had a lot of injuries but that was by far the worst pain-wise.

It is very frustrating for him as he is just establishing himself in the team but I just told him to keep his head up.

The best way for him to look at it is that it could have happened at the start of the season, as it is we have five games left and he will be back and raring to go for pre-season.
