Wroxham win Cup for seventh time

Wroxham have been crowned Norfolk Senior Cup champions for the seventh time after beating Sheringham 3-1 at Carrow Road on Tuesday night.

Danny White put the Yachtsmen ahead after only seven minutes before Leyton Miller doubled their advantage five minutes later.

Just before half-time Stuart Barker clawed Sheringham back into contention.

Midfielder Gavin Lemmon scored Wroxham's third in the second half to secure their victory.

In the dying minutes of the match Lemmon was awarded a penalty after being fouled in the area but his spot-kick could only hit the crossbar.

Sheringham are the first team to represent the Anglian Combination in the final for over 15 years and were massive underdogs for the title.

The night is a great occasion for everyone involved and I'm really pleased

Wroxham manager Damian Hilton

The Sheringham manager John Kowalyk told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Wroxham are a good side, you can see that, very quick, they pass the ball slick and you can see they play Ridgeon's league every week.

Wroxham lost in last year's final to Dereham Town in what many described by many as a lacklustre display of football.

The Wroxham manager Damian Hilton told BBC Radio Norfolk: "The night is a great occasion for everyone involved and I'm really pleased.

"I'm a bit disappointed in the manner that we let them back into the game, when they got the goal it opened things right up."

Wroxham will now turn their attention to the Ridgeon's Premier Division as they try to defend their league title.
