Poor turnout mars Jersey victory
Stuart Andre
Jersey's Stuart Andre, who scored the island's second goal.
Just 60 people turned out to watch Jersey beat Northern Ireland's Under-18s side 3-0 at Springfield.

Barry Beatson got the first after half an hour, shooting the ball home after the visitors failed to clear a corner.

With 10 minutes left it was 2-0 when Island captain Stuart Andre, on as a substitute, stabbed home after another corner was not cleared.

And with two minutes to go Marco Vieira came off the bench to seal the win with a volley from eight yards out.

While Jersey were unlucky to lose 1-0 to the Reading Academy on Saturday, they were flattered by this score.

Only three players from Saturday's defeat started against the Northern Irish - Liam Walshe, Mark Lucas and James O'Haire.

Manager Dave Kennedy made five changes at half-time, bringing on Andre, Viera, Chris Andrews, Craig Fletcher and Craig Leitch, and switched the formation from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2.

The youngsters of Northern Ireland were certainly game opponents, but found it hard to deal with the strength of the Jersey men.

Jersey Under-18s face them on Wednesday in what is likely to be a much more competitive match.

It is the second year running the Northern Irish Under-18s have faced Jersey.
