Pearce could be in line for a full-time role |
Stuart Pearce's appointment as full-time England Under-21 coach will be discussed at a Football Association board meeting over the weekend. Pearce was appointed in a part-time capacity in January and guided England to the European U21 championships semi-finals earlier this month.
FA director of football development, Sir Trevor Brooking said: "I met with Stuart and made recommendations.
"After the board meeting this weekend, we hope to have some news next week."
The FA plan for the England U21 boss to have a wider role in youth development, with Ray Clemence playing an instrumental part with England's younger age group.
Brooking said: "It's a full-time position with the Under-21s, with other additional work with Academies, centres of excellence, looking at the teams to work the way through.

"Ray is head of the national teams and Stuart would have a key role to work with Clem to identify individuals to fast-track."
The FA is also keen for the new coach to establish a good working relationship with clubs to avoid the sort of confusion that blighted England's build-up to the recent European Championships.
Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor failed to contact the FA to confirm his call-up, while Pearce's squad was left a man short when Blackburn's David Bentley pulled out.
Brooking said: "Stuart would go out to a lot of clubs, deal with senior coaches as well as Academy coaches.
"Steve McClaren already goes out to clubs, so with two people their credibility would help the club-versus-country issue which can be sensitive."
