Plymouth divers to compete in British National Cup

World diving champion Tom Daley

Plymouth divers Tom Daley, Tonia Couch and Brooke Graddon begin their 2010 season at the British National Cup in Ponds Forge, Sheffield on Friday.

Couch will enter the action first in the women's 10m synchro on Friday, before joining Graddon in the 10m individual on Saturday.

Daley will be competing on Sunday in the men's 10m individual event.

The winners of each event will gain a spot in the Great Britain team for June's Diving World Cup in China.

World champion Daley told BBC Sport in January that the British National Cup will see him debut what he describes as one of the "hardest dives out there".

Daley has added the back two and a half somersault, two and a half twists, dive to his list for the new season in order to progress his difficulty level.

"I am excited to use it for the first time in competition," he said.

"It is one of the hardest dives out there, we have been working on it since the World Championships."

Following the Sheffield event, the trio will return to action in the Armada Cup in Plymouth.

The Cup will be held at Plymouth's Mayflower Centre between 18-21 February.
