Tammy Beaumont has played 7 ODIs and 6 T20 internationals
Following her call up to the England squad, Kent batsman Tammy Beaumont has praised the calming influence of opening partner Charlotte Edwards. Beaumont has helped Kent to the county championship and t20 titles in 2011. She told BBC Radio Kent: "I thought I had a really good season with the bat. I've opened for a couple of years but it's the first time with Lottie. "She's great to bat with because you know that if you're struggling, she'll be batting freely at the other end." The Loughborough University student also credited her upturn in form to improving her mental approach to the game. "I've been training really hard at Loughborough and sorted out a few things mentally. | I've opened for a couple of years but it's the first time with Lottie. She's great to bat with because you know that if you're struggling, she'll be batting freely at the other end. |
"It's about knowing that if you bat for a length of time, you'll get a certain amount of runs." Contrary to her last appearance for the national side in March 2010, when she was called upon as a replacement wicketkeeper, Beaumont has earned her stripes this time on batting alone. The 20-year-old from Sandwich is one of five Kent ladies to be selected for England's tour to South Africa this winter. She is excited to be playing alongside some familiar faces. "The five of us are good batsmen so we could be batting together out there. We've already got the knowledge of playing with each other at Kent. Hopefully I'll get a go in the first eleven and see what I can do out in South Africa. "We find out in a couple of weeks what our actual roles will be. "I'm there as a batter and reserve keeper if anything should happen to Sarah Taylor. Hopefully I'll get an opportunity," she said. Victory in the summer's quadrangular series against Australia, India and New Zealand meant England retained their status as the top-ranked women's team. Beaumont said coming into such a successful side means she must perform when presented with the opportunity. "Everyone in the squad is a top class cricketer and there's a lot of competition for places. If you get a go, you have to perform. I have got a shot."
