Women's Twenty20 international, Mumbai: India 126-7 (20 ovs) bt England 96 (19.2 ovs) by 30 runs Match scorecard
All-rounder Jenny Gunn made 18 but no batter could compile a major score |
England's women succumbed to a 30-run defeat as India levelled the Twenty20 series at 1-1 with one match to play. India chose to bat first and Sulakshana Naik hit six fours in her 36 to help the hosts to 126-7 from their 20 overs. Lydia Greenway top scored with 29 from 35 balls but she was run-out in the 15th over and Poonam Raut struck three times as the tourists were 96 all out. Having lost the one-day campaign 3-2, England must now focus on Monday's deciding Twenty20 encounter in Mumbai. England would have hoped to tie up the series with one match to spare given the absence of India's premier strike bowler Jhulan Goswami. | 606: DEBATE England captain Charlotte Edwards |
But the batting failed to click into gear and captain Charlotte Edwards put the disappointing performance down to 'a bad day at the office.' The opening batsman, who made 12 from 11 balls at the top of the order, said: "I think both teams can do better than we did today, we lost too many wickets and made it hard for our later batsman. We just didn't play well enough. "We will dust ourselves down and will bounce back on Monday, ready for a fantastic game of cricket."
