England women will be led once again by Charlotte Edwards |
Anya Shrubsole is the only uncapped player in England women's 15-player squad for the series against the West Indies, South Africa and India. Shrubsole, 16, is an all-rounder who plays her county cricket for Somerset and her club cricket for Bath. The squad contains 12 members from the victorious party that retained the Ashes in Australia earlier this year. Ebony Rainford-Brent and Lynsey Askew have been recalled after missing out over the winter. The series starts with two one-day internationals against the West Indies at Loughborough on 11 and 12 July. They will then play five 50-over games and three Twenty20 matches against South Africa before five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 contest against India. England head coach Mark Lane said: "It was very difficult to select the squad given the talent that we have in England at the moment and the very successful winter tour we've just had. "We have made a few changes, bringing in the very exciting talent of Ebony Rainford-Brent and Anya as well as the ever-reliable Lynsey Askew. "Some fantastic performances in the Super 4s with key players scoring big runs demonstrates that we're progressing and moving forward to our ultimate goal of the ICC Women's World Cup in Australia in 2009." Skipper Charlotte Edwards said: "The West Indies are an unknown quantity to us, but we definitely won't underestimate them. South Africa and India will provide tough opponents later on in the summer, but we're prepared and excited for that challenge."
