Mark Lane has been appointed head coach of the England women's team by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Lane took over in an acting capacity from Mark Dobson during the recent tour of Australia.

Clare Connor, the head of women's cricket at the ECB, said: "He is tried and tested as a women's cricket coach.

"This was proven in Australia where he led England to victory in the Ashes Test match and in New Zealand where England secured the series 3-1."

Lane, who played for Hampshire during his playing career as a wicketkeeper-batsman, will officially take up the role on 28 April.

He said: "I'm really pleased to have been offered this position and I'm relishing the opportunity to take up the role.

"I'm delighted to be working with players of the calibre currently within the squad.

"They are a very talented and enthusiastic group of girls and I feel privileged to be working with them."
