Mark Lane is relishing the chance to guide the fortunes of the England women's team after taking over as acting head coach.

He has taken over from Mark Dobson, who resigned his job in the middle of the current tour to Australia.

Lane, from Surrey, was only on the tour after agreeing to replace Dobson's assistant Vince Wells at short notice.

"They're a talented squad and I'm delighted at this opportunity to continue my work with them," he said.

"It's a real honour to take on the role of acting head coach."

Lane's first game in charge was a successful one as England beat Australia by seven wickets in Sydney.

After completing the one-day series at the same venue on Monday, they then head to Bowral's Bradman Oval to defend the Women's Ashes in a one-off Test.

England will then move on to New Zealand for a series of one-day internationals.
