Lara seeks Test double-ton record
Brian Lara

Brian Lara says he has one remaining goal left in Test cricket before he hangs up his boots - Sir Don Bradman's world record 12 Test double centuries.

Lara became the leading run-scorer in Tests when he passed Allan Border's mark of 11,174 in an innings of 226 at the Adelaide Oval last weekend.

Interviewed by Test Match Special, Lara said: "It's drawn me closer to retiring as I don't know what else I have to do.

"I would love to get past Bradman. He got 12 double centuries, I have eight."

Lara described beating Border's mark as a "testament to my longevity in the game."

He went on: "I played my first Test match in Lahore in 1990 and it has been a tremendous 121 Test matches.

It was a momentous occasion in Adelaide... I am very happy

"I have enjoyed every single innings. I know it has happened at a time when West Indies cricket has been on a decline but it is such an honour to play for West Indies and be a part of history and I've enjoyed it.

"My [record Test scores of] 375 and 400 were done in the West Indies and the people there were able to celebrate.

"But there is something very mystical about walking out to bat at the Adelaide Oval.

"Six innings leading up to that, I had scored no runs but the atmosphere and anticipation of the people was tremendous and I think they sensed something.

"It was a momentous occasion and today I got membership of the South Australia Cricket Association. I am very happy."
