Jaywardene led Sri Lanka on a successful tour of England |
Sri Lanka have kept Mahela Jayawardene as captain for the ICC Champions Trophy in India in October and November even though Marvan Atapattu is fit again. Jayawardene stood in on the England tour and was retained for the tri-series with India and South Africa.
The series was cancelled, meaning no games for Atapattu, who had recovered from shoulder surgery in March.
Kumar Sangakkara will keep wicket in India, meaning no place for Prasanna Jayawardene in the 14-man squad.
Atapattu has been told to prove his match-fitness before he can resume the captaincy.
With Upul Tharanga now settled as Sanath Jayasuriya's opening partner, he is likely to be vying with Tillakaratne Dilshan and Chamara Kapugedera for a middle-order place.
Sri Lanka leave on 1 October and will face West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in a preliminary qualification round for a place in the tournament proper.
