Ryder has been included in both squads |
Batsman Jesse Ryder and bowler Tim Southee have been included for the first time in New Zealand's squad for the limited-overs games with England. The teams will play two Twenty20 matches followed by five one-day internationals in February.
"Jesse has the potential to provide an explosive start alongside Brendon McCullum," said New Zealand Cricket selection manager Sir Richard Hadlee.
"Tim will join the Twenty20 squad. He is an impressive young bowler."
The ODI squad is valid for the first three of the five matches, and features the notable omissions of batsmen Matt Sinclair and Lou Vincent.
Among possible bowling options, Mark Gillespie and James Franklin both miss out through injury, while there was no place for Iain O'Brien.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Paul Hitchcock has been recalled to the squads.
"Hitchcock is an experienced bowler whose style is well suited to New Zealand conditions and venues," added Hadlee.
"He also gives greater depth to the batting order and a versatile range of bowling skills.
"Michael Mason replaces Tim Southee for the ODI series, with Jeetan Patel bringing the squad to 13."
