Bracewell took over in September 2003 |
New Zealand cricket officials have said coach John Bracewell will remain in his position until 2007. The Black Caps suffered a 2-0 series defeat against Australia and have won just three of their 12 Tests since Bracewell took over in September 2003.
But chief executive Martin Snedden said he felt the need to support Bracewell.
"We decided we wanted to back him more and give him the job security he needed to be successful in the position," Snedden said.
"The problem with a two-year cycle is that we often changed for change's sake and ended up getting someone who would just repeat the same old mistakes."
Before their 2-0 win over minnows Bangladesh, New Zealand had lost six consecutive Tests under Bracewell.
They have won 18 of 21 one-day games under the former spinner.
New Zealand warmed up for their forthcoming one-day series against Australia with a 34-run victory over a makeshift Victoria side in Melbourne.
Batting first in the 40-over match, the Black Caps posted 277-7, captain Stephen Fleming top-scoring with 67 and Nathan Astle making 66.
Chris Cairns, who missed the recent Test series whitewash, took two wickets as the hosts were bowled out for 243.
"Although it's just a hit out, a win's a win," Cairns said.
