Sourav Ganguly was relieved to make an early return to the India squad the day after his six-match ban from one-day internationals was reduced by two. "When I heard the verdict I was pleased. I had really, very honestly not expected the ban to be reduced," said the Indian captain.
Ganguly was suspended for his team's slow over rate during a one-day series against Pakistan in April.
Judge Albie Sachs reduced the ban following a second appeal by India.
Their initial attempt to change the match referee's decision had been rejected by an International Cricket Council match commissioner.
Ganguly can now play in the one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka starting on Saturday.
He will sit out the first two games, having missed the last two in the Pakistan series pending his first appeal before the ICC imposed the ban retroactively.
He said he had no problem playing under senior team-mate Rahul Dravid, named captain for the series.
"I have no problem playing under any captain, be it Rahul, be it Harbhajan Singh," he said. It's not a point of discussion at all."
"I'll play for India, that's more than enough. There are three matches, I just want to play well."
