Wiseman dismisses 'walk' incident
Paul Wiseman
Wiseman had to wait for Hayden's dismissal to be confirmed

New Zealand spin bowler Paul Wiseman insisted there was no acrimony over the latest 'walking' incident' in their Test series against Australia.

Matthew Hayden waited for a decision from the TV umpire in Adelaide after hitting a return catch to Wiseman.

"I thought it was a straightforward one but he wasn't sure and he's entitled to stick around.

"It was pretty amicable. There were no dramas," said Wiseman, after Australia ended the first day's play on 327-3.

Australia keeper Adam Gilchrist exchanged heated words with New Zealand's Craig McMillan during the first Test in Brisbane when McMillan refused to walk after the umpire failed to notice an inside edge.

And the issue was brought to life again when Hayden declined to return to the pavilion without a ruling over the validity of Wiseman's catch.

It would have been nice to get a couple more, but the guys are certainly not down

Hayden's team-mate Justin Langer, who hit 144 not out, said there had been a "double noise".

Langer added: "He thought he hit into the ground but obviously he didn't.

"The umpires did the right thing by using the technology to make absolutely sure he was out... it just saved any issues.

"There was no aggro, it was just one of those things."

Of his 20th Test century, Langer said: "I don't think it was one of my best, to be honest.

"Besides the first couple of overs and probably a couple of overs with the new ball it was more of a gritty innings.

"But I thought my balance was good, and for me that's very encouraging."

Wiseman described New Zealand's overall effort in the field as "good, honest toil".

He said: "We lost the toss on a very good batting wicket and the Aussies played very well.

"The guys stuck at it. It would have been nice to get a couple more, but the guys are certainly not down."
