Drum calls it a day
Chris Harris will look to fill the all-rounder's spot
Chris Harris will look to fill the all-rounder's spot
Chris Harris and Robbie Hart have been named in New Zealand's 14-man squad for the Test tour of Pakistan later in April.

But paceman Chris Drum, 27, has made himself unavailable for the one-day series in Sharjah and the subsequent tour of Pakistan "to pursue other interests".

Drum, who made his debut against Pakistan in Christchurch last year, has taken 12 Test wickets with best figures of three for 36 in the first Ttest against England in Christchurch.

New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming said Drum had told him the current Test against England would be his last.

Hart replaces Adam Parore behind the stumps, after the 31-year-old's retirement from cricket.

Harris keeps his all-rounder spot after hitting an impressive 71 for the Kiwis in the final Test against England.

Left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori was included, but must pass a fitness test on a back injury.

Vettori has, however, been excluded from the one-day squad for Sharjah, which precedes the Pakistan tour.

For the Tests, Vettori will be backed up by the Auckland legspinner Brooke Walker.

Richard Hadlee, chairman of selectors, said: "Dan's exclusion from the one-day side is part of the proactive management of his back injury, which the medical team indicated would be necessary some time ago.

"The selection of Walker reflects the need to develop another spin bowling option and is reward for the 28 wickets he has taken in domestic cricket this summer."

New Zealand are missing their four best fast bowlers. Chris Cairns, Shane Bond, Dion Nash and Shayne O'Connor are all injured.

Test squad for Pakistan: Stephen Fleming (captain), Andre Adams, Nathan Astle, Ian Butler, Chris Harris, Robbie Hart, Matt Horne, Chris Martin, Craig McMillan, Mark Richardson, Daryl Tuffey, Daniel Vettori (subject to fitness), Lou Vincent, Brooke Walker.

Squad for one-day international series in Sharjah: Stephen Fleming (captain), Andre Adams, Nathan Astle, Ian Butler, James Franklin, Chris Harris, Matt Horne, Chris Nevin, Craig McMillan, Jacob Oram, Daryl Tuffey, Scott Styris, Lou Vincent, Brooke Walker.
